Skulptur Projekte 2027 curator Vincent Schier will be a speaker at the session “Museums in Contact”, part of the annual conference “Opening Museums! Diversity as an Opportunity” organised by the German Museums Association, taking place from May 10 to 13, 2026 in Münster. The session will take place on Tuesday, May 12 at 13:30.
The conference encourages museums to actively shape their role in a plural society and explores how new perspectives can be integrated into institutional practice, how diversity and participation can be embedded as long-term strategies, and what strengths museums – whether large or small, urban or rural – bring to this process. It offers space for professional exchange, practice-oriented approaches, and shared perspectives for the future, and will take place as a hybrid event.
The session explores how museums can act as spaces of encounter, engaging with society and building bridges between different groups, perspectives, and generations. It places a particular focus on collaboration with cultural actors and multipliers.
Key questions include the potential and challenges of such collaborations: How can diverse audiences be reached and engaged in the long term? What perspectives do collaborations offer for opening up museums? And how can cooperation be shaped sustainably and on equal terms in practice?
